BOLIVIAN SALT FLATS | From $1,909* per person
Venturing into the vastness of Salar de Uyuni — the world's largest salt flat — is an experience that is nothing short of otherworldly. Located in the southwest part of Bolivia's Andes region, this former prehistoric lake features 4,000 square miles of crystalline salt pentagons draped over a sprawling landscape dotted with active volcanoes, hot springs, and cacti-studded islands. The already dreamlike environment ups the ante during the rainy season and transforms into the 'world's biggest mirror' due to the effect of the light being reflected by the residual rain water over the salt-covered ground. The horizon disappears as the surface becomes a mirrored version of the altiplano sky — simply breathtaking! Despite the rarity of wildlife as a result
of the desert ecosystem, the salt flat is home to a significant number of pink flamingos.
This select itinerary includes a unique accommodation that fittingly channels the environment:
a hotel made almost entirely out of salt! Nestled on top of a rise, Hotel de Sal Luna Salada
offers amazing views of the famous Uyuni salt mine and the surreal landscape that surrounds
it. This hotel features an excellent spa that offers much-needed respite after an adventure
filled day of exploring at high altitude. Daily activities will depend on the time of year, and
are planned in order to provide the best experience. The area is arguably more magical
from November to March when there is rain involved, but it is easier to wander around
and visit more sites during the dry season.
